Help sought in homicide investigation

WELLSBURG – The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department is seeking a person who passed a vehicle that left the home of 30-year-old Jason Lee Pratz at about 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Pratz was found dead from a gunshot wound at his Genteel Ridge Home at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Brooke County Sheriff Chuck Jackson is seeking the driver of a vehicle, possibly a green Ford Taurus, that was almost struck by a vehicle leaving Pratz’ home as it entered state Route 67 from Genteel Ridge Road and turned toward Wellsburg at a high rate of speed.

Jackson stressed the driver of the green vehicle isn’t a suspect in the case but is asked to contact the sheriff’s department, which can be reached at (304) 527-1430 or (304) 737-3660.

The sheriff said he couldn’t discuss other details in the ongoing investigation.

He said earlier the shooting is believed to have occurred in the late afternoon or early evening Monday.
