Brooke County shooting confirmed homicide

WELLSBURG – The shooting death of 30-year-old Jason Lee Pratz, 30, of Wellsburg has been confirmed as a homicide, and the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department continues to seek help from the public in its investigation.

Pratz is believed to have been shot in the late afternoon or early evening Monday.

The sheriff’s department received a call at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday that Pratz had been found dead in his home on Genteel Ridge near McKinleyville.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brooke County Sheriff Chuck Jackson said he continues to request information from the public, particularly anyone who saw a person or vehicle near the home within that timeframe. Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s department at (304) 527-1430 or (304) 737-3660.

“We’re conducting interviews, following up every lead and asking for the public’s assistance,” Jackson said.

Jackson said he can’t comment further on the shooting at this time.

The sheriff’s department has drawn upon the resources of the West Virginia State Police Laboratory in Charleston and equipment belonging to the Weirton-Brooke-Hancock Drug Task Force used for investigating various crimes.
