9:02 p.m. Council hears opposition to fire house closing

STEUBENVILLE — Firefighters and residents appealed to City Council Tuesday night for the future of the Pleasant heights fire station.

The fire station was one of several proposals made by City Manager Cathy Davison Monday night needed to balance the city’s 2013 budget.

Several speakers at the Tuesday night regular meeting questioned closing the fire station.

City Council approved legislation Tuesday night authorizing the city manager to advertise bids for the city’s 2013 hot mix resurfacing program as well as the street seal program.

The council also approved a resolution recognizing March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness month in the city.

And a third and final reading was heard and approved for an increase in the city’s building permit fees.
