Utility sponsors annual contest
CARROLLTON – Carroll Electric Cooperative Inc. is sponsoring its annual contest that will give deserving high school sophomores and juniors the opportunity to use their knowledge and wit to compete for a free weeklong trip to Washington, D.C.
The tour, scheduled for June 14-20, teaches students about the rural electric utility and gives students a first-hand look at the activities of our government in the nation’s capital.
Students will have the opportunity to meet and talk to congressional leaders from Ohio at the U.S. Capitol, while visiting the sights of Washington. Students also will have the opportunity to be selected to serve on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Leadership Council.
Only high school sophomores and juniors whose parents or legal guardian are members of Carroll Electric are eligible to apply. Applications and guidelines are available on the Carroll Electric website at www.cecpower.coop. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1.

High school seniors whose parents or guardian are members of Carroll Electric Cooperative Inc. may be eligible to compete in the Carroll Electric Scholarship Competition for scholarships totaling $4,800.
Carroll Electric will provide three awards in both a boys and girls divisions. The first-place winners of each division will receive $1,200. Those placing second will receive $800, and those placing third will receive $400.
Qualifying first-place applications from each division will be forwarded to the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives Inc. Children of Members Scholarship Program., where they will compete for additional scholarships.
Students also may apply for the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives Inc. Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship. This $1,750 scholarship is specifically geared toward students who have overcome adversity, obstacles or personal challenges.
