CAC OKs resource network
STEUBENVILLE – The Jefferson County Community Action Council trustees agreed to participate in a four-county business network that will mirror similar operations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
CAC Chief Executive Officer Barb West said the agency “will act as the employer of record for the network that will include Jefferson, Harrison, Belmont and Carroll counties.”
“The BRN was originally created in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties to improve services provided to regional businesses. It uses a teamwork approach to working with and using a structured interview through software. The interview identifies needs of a business that are reviewed by the BRN partners who provide options for meeting a business needs,” explained West.
West said the Department of Labor grant will continue until June 30, 2015.
Steubenville Mayor Domenick Mucci said two candidates have been tentatively selected for the business manager and administrative assistant positions.
“We will also have an account manager for each of the four counties who will answer to the business manager. We hope to have this program up and running within 60 days,” said Mucci.
In other business at Wednesday’s meeting, West reported the board is putting together a plan that will contain a request to the federal government for an enrollment reduction.
“We hope that will free up $200,000 in funds that will also allow us to address shortcomings identified by our peer review. We also are always in need of Head Start bus drivers and need to be able to offer a realistic salary,” explained West.
The trustees approved a change to the CAC Head Start policy manual that states no candidate will be offered employment until after a criminal background check is completed.
West informed the trustees the CAC Home Energy Assistance Program offered help to 1,300 households from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31.
“We provided $515,475 in H.E.A.P. services during the two-month period,” said West.
The next CAC board of trustees meeting is set for Feb. 27.
The trustees also met in executive session to discuss personnel.
