Blasting to begin above Route 7
RUSH RUN – Blasting work is set to begin next week on the hillside above state Route 7 near Rush Run as part of a $22 million landslide repair project, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported.
ODOT’s contractor, Beaver Excavating Co. of Canton, will begin blasting operations Monday causing some traffic delays between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. each day.
Weather permitting, both northbound and southbound traffic will be stopped daily for approximately 10 minutes while blasting occurs, ODOT reported. Motorists should plan ahead to avoid delays during this hour, according to ODOT.
Only one blast will occur each day. Once blasting operations begin, crews will be working 24 hours a day, Monday through Saturday, throughout the end of the project, ODOT reported.
State Route 7 has been reduced to one lane in each direction in the northbound lanes of the highway between Rayland and Brilliant, since a major landslide occurred in March 2011.
All major work is expected to be completed by the fall, however some cleanup work may be required into early next year.
