TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met at the Roosevelt Building on Feb. 8 with Donna Spry, vice president, conducting the meeting.

Susan Kulstad began the Valentine’s Day celebration by conducting a drawing for the Valentine king and queen. Louie Nelson and Peg Nordenger were honored and presented with candy-filled valentine hearts.

After the opening prayer, the seniors welcomed new member Mary Lou Hawkins, and enjoyed a pizza and salad party. Fifty/fifty tickets were sold by Marlene Garrett and Frank Marino. The two winners were Marlene Garrett and Kenny Mossor.

The kitchen committee, made up of Bob and Mary Lou Deku, Marsha McConnell, Judy Sabol, Donna Twyford and Helen Lindsay, were thanked for their hard work.

After the members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, the roll call of officers was held. Given the Jan. 25 meeting was canceled because of the extreme cold weather, the minutes for the Jan. 11 meeting were read and accepted. Treasurer Judy Sabol, gave the financial report, and Social Secretary Nina Kavanagh read the birthdays and anniversaries from the second half of January and the beginning of February. She also reported that cards were sent to three members.

Descriptions for the two trips that the membership seemed most interested in were passed out. The tours would be to Lincoln Park High School for the Performing Arts in Midland, Pa., on March 31 to see “Singing in the Rain” and the second to Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling on April 29 to see “The King and I.” Both tours had stops for a meal at the members’ expense.

Marcella McKnight was recognized as the member of the month.

Valentine jokes were read as well as the “Joke of the Evening.” After the meeting, members played bingo and other games. John Lash called the bingo numbers and Hank Sheets assisted.
