Classes for beef producers detailed

School is in session this winter for beef producers.

The Ohio State University Extension in Jefferson, Harrison and Carroll counties is offering a Tri-County Beef Management School on Feb. 19, Feb. 25 and March 4.

Each session begins at 7 p.m. and will cover a variety of topics, from marketing to grazing management.

The schedule for the 2019 Eastern Ohio Beef Management School is as follows:

≤ Feb. 19 at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School in Bloomingdale

“From Farm to Butcher: Producing the Best Quality Meat/ What Does Cultured Meat Mean for Producers,” Dr. Lyda Garcia, OSU Extension meat quality specialist; “Experiences with Marketing Beef,” Clint Finney, natural resources conservation service soil conservation technician and local producer; “Meet the Vet,” Dr. Matt Friend, Cadiz Animal Clinic.

≤ Feb. 25, Harrison County Fairgrounds, Cadiz

“Value Added Products,” Rick Young, Young Cattle Co., Belmont County; “What to Know about Pink Eye and Vaccinations,” Dr. Matt Friend, Cadiz Animal Clinic; “Blockchain and Traceability in Agriculture,” Erika Lyon, OSU Extension educator, Jefferson and Harrison Counties.

≤ March 4, Carroll County Extension Office, Carrollton

“Spring Pasture Management” by Chris Penrose, OSU Extension educator, Morgan County; “Forage Genetics,” Bob Hendershot, forage consultant; “Meet the Vet,” Dr. Matt Friend, Cadiz Animal Clinic.

Pre-registration is required for the class. Cost of the 2018 Beef Management School is $5 per person per session, and those under 18 who attend are free. Light refreshments will be provided at sessions,
