STEUBENVILLE — Thinking about starting a community garden? Or maybe a learning garden at a school? Or maybe you just want to learn more about gardening in general.

The Ohio State University Extension is offering a community garden series for the public called Neighborhood Gardens. This program will address how to fund, manage and grow a community garden.

Sessions will be held monthly January to April at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School, Bloomingdale, on the second Mondays of each month and will feature a variety of topics. Those interested in the program can pick and choose which sessions are most relevant for their garden project. A full schedule of sessions can be found at jefferson.osu.edu/events/neighborhood-gardens.

The first session will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Jan. 14 and will cover how to plan a garden plot including layout, equipment needed and matching plants to site conditions. Grant writing basics for community gardens also will be covered.

Cost of each session is $5 per person, and pre-registration is required. Payment is due upon registration — no cash will be accepted at the door. Contact OSU Extension at (740) 264-2212 or send an e-mail to lyon.194@osu.edu with questions regarding the program and how to register.
