St. Thomas Episcopal Church

holiday bazaar is today

WEIRTON — St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located on Three Springs Drive, will hold its annual holiday bazaar from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

Homemade soup and sandwiches will be available for sale, and there will be a bake sale. Quarts of soup will be available for $6.50. Patrons can dine in or get takeout. The bazaar will host more than 15 outside craft venders selling their wares, and fresh-cut Christmas trees will be sold. For information, contact the church at (304) 723-4120.

Missionaries to speak at

Cove Presbyterian event

WEIRTON — Missionaries Jake and Jessi Schwertfeger will make a presentation on their experiences in the mission field in Zambia, Africa on Monday at Cove Presbyterian Church, 3404 Main St.

The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. by the couple who grew up in the Northern Panhandle. It is open to the public. For information, contact the church at (304) 748-5980.

Philoptochos Society

scheduled to meet Dec. 6

STEUBENVILLE — The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church’s Philoptochos Society celebrated its anniversary dinner meeting at the church on Nov. 1 with President Joanne McCraley presiding.

There were 19 members attending. Rikki Kamarados read the Philoptochos prayer.

New member Tara Dzvonick was welcomed. Anthony Mougianis welcomed James Demundo, who prepared the buffet dinner.

Rana Mahfood gave a report on shut-in visits she did. The November charity benefited the Salvation Army of Steubenville.

There were donations made toward the Christmas dinner, the stockings and the children’s home.

Vice President Christine Joyce distributed rose bouquets to the president and past presidents in attendance, including McCraley, Kamarados, Mary McElhaney, Mary Jean Mahfood and Marianne Balakos.

The next meeting will be held Dec. 6.

Two Ridges to host tree

light-up, Ron Retzer concert

WINTERSVILLE — Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, will hold its 10th-annual Christmas tree light-up and Ron Retzer concert on Dec. 2.

The tree light-up is at 6:30 p.m., and the free concert begins at 7 p.m. Both are open to the public.

Community Christmas VBS

at Wellsburg United Methodist

WELLSBURG — This will mark the sixth year that supporters of the Wellsburg Community Vacation Bible School team will offer a one-evening Christmas VBS event.

It will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 7 at the Wellsburg United Methodist Church on 11th and Charles streets in Wellsburg. The focus will be “The Christmas Promise” and is open to children from ages 4 through sixth-graders.

“Children will be provided dinner and fellowship as they travel through stations visiting with characters from the first Christmas long ago to learn of their part in ‘The Christmas Promise,'” a spokesperson noted. “They will enjoy crafts, games and songs while learning about the night of Jesus’ birth.”

Pre-registration is helpful for planning, and parents may call (304) 737-0488 to leave a message with names, ages and number of children attending. All are welcomed, however, even if they didn’t get pre-registered.

Parents also may fill out a registration form and bring it to VBS the night of the event. The forms are available at all of the following Wellsburg churches hosting the event: First Presbyterian Church, Franklin and Wellsburg United Methodist Church, Christ Episcopal Church, St. John’s Catholic Church, Community of Christ, Wellsburg Christian Church and the First Baptist Church of Wellsburg.

Cadiz church hosting

two holiday events

CADIZ — Roger Hoard and Dan Jones of the band Hoard and Jones will be performing a Christmas concert at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, beginning at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2.

Admission is free; however, an offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the church.

The church is located at 154 W. Market St.

The church will be hosting its annual Christmas choir festival on Dec. 9, beginning at 7 p.m.

Harrison County church choirs will be performing Christmas hymns and music. There will be a social hour in the fellowship hall following the event.

Christmas concert Dec. 1

at Oakland Presbyterian

WEIRTON — A Christmas concert featuring special guest Sheldon Mencer will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 at Oakland Presbyterian Church, Wylie Ridge Road, Weirton. Refreshments will be served following the concert. Host pastor is Randy Krebs.

Hyssongs to present concert

tonight at Carrollton church

CARROLLTON — The Hyssongs will be presenting a concert of gospel music at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Carrollton Bible Church, located at 365 Steubenville Road S.E.

Admission is two food items to be donated to the local food pantry, Loaves and Fishes. A love offering also will be received. A door prize will be given.
