Church Women United prepare for World Community Day

WEIRTON — The executive board of Church Women United of Weirton met recently for the fall meeting at Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church with President Cathy Cooper extending the welcome and reading a devotion titled “Waiting, Trusting, Hoping.” There were 35 attending.

Memorial Baptist Women serving as hostesses were Connie Gilbert, Connie Gettinger, Ginny Parsons, Patty Brady, Nancy Tournay and Lexi Woisnet.

Reports were given by Maggie Clark, recording secretary; Joann Morrison, treasurer; Elaine Flati, telephone chair; Eleanor Cline, hospitality; Diane Pastoric, citizen action chair, snacks for the Dubar Recreation Center as the World Community Day project; and Mary Ellen Groves, music coordinator, noting a choir practice date and time; and Isobel Bell, publicity.

Helen Tate, valiant chair, announced the valiant women will be revealed at the World Community Day celebration. The honor is bestowed for service to the organization, church and community.

Cooper introduced Janet Fulciniti, Kathleen Jonczak and Delores Bengier, new delegates from St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Nancy Brown was welcomed as a guest.

A proclamation from Mayor Harold Miller was read. Rebecca “Tish” Turner is the U.N.I.C.E.F. area chair. Campaign dates are Oct. 19-27. Tag day is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 26 at Shop and Save.

Officers to be installed at the World Community Day celebration are: President, Turner; first vice president, Carol Village; second vice president, Gerri Harbaugh; recording secretary, Ronda Krebs; corresponding secretary, Helen Jeter; and treasurer, Joann Morrison.

The theme for World Community Day 2018 is “Reaching for Wholeness in Harmony with God’s People.” Paris Presbyterian Church will host the event that begins at 11 a.m. on Nov. 2. Practice is at 10 a.m. on Nov. 1.

The Christmas luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 7 at Cove Presbyterian Church.
