Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary presents awards, installs officers

WEIRTON — Sondra Weigel, Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary president, recently presented awards at a special dinner held in the auxiliary’s honor.

Weigel recognized Florence Jonczak for her 35 years of service, Marylou Batcho for 15 years of service and Sue Ball for five years of service to WMC’s Auxiliary.

Also honored was Carlin Long, the WMC Auxiliary Volunteen scholarship award winner, who was presented a $4,000 scholarship for his service. A recent graduate of Catholic Central High School, he will attend Duquesne University, where he will major in physical therapy.

Long dedicated 175 hours of volunteer service at WMC over the course of four years. He is an altar server at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and successfully led fundraising for Cynthia’s Kitchen, a school food program for impoverished children in Africa. Long attended the awards dinner with his parents, Dr. Chris and Susan Long and his brother, Evan.

WMC Auxiliary officers for 2018 also were announced. They are Sondra Weigel, president; Elda Weekley, recording secretary; Domenica “Minnie” Malloy, corresponding secretary; and Vivian Weigel, assistant treasurer.
