Annual Ladies of Steel

gathering set for Aug. 29

WEIRTON — The eighth-annual Ladies of Steel gathering will be held Aug. 29 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Serbian Picnic Grounds, Kings Creek Road.

Knights of Columbus to hold

annual corn roast Thursday

WINTERSVILLE — The officers and directors of Steubenville Knights of Columbus Council 472 will host their annual family corn roast on Thursday at the meeting hall located at the corner of Woodvue Lane and Two Ridge Road, Wintersville.

Members, their families, friends, guests and those interested in the Knights of Columbus are invited to attend. The menu will include sweet corn on the cob, grilled hot dogs, hamburgers and macaroni and cheese. Various soft drinks will be available for purchase.

Tickets for the 2018 Football “Fund Crazr” fundraiser will be available. Proceeds will benefit the organization’s charitable programs.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The cost per person is $5 for adults and $3 for children under age 12.

Steubenville City Schools

retirees welcome newbies

STEUBENVILLE — Twenty-four retirees of Steubenville City Schools gathered for lunch on Aug. 9 at Murray’s Restaurant in Wintersville.

Two new retirees were welcomed. A sympathy card was signed, and Steubenville City Schools calendars were made available.

The next lunch will be held Sept. 13 at the Crooked Dock in Wellsburg.

Benefit dinner to be held

Sunday at Holy Family Church

STEUBENVILLE — A benefit spaghetti dinner for Jim Talamonti of Toronto, formerly of Steubenville, will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 26 at Holy Family Church, located at 2608 Hollywood Blvd.

The dinner cost is a $10 donation that will include pasta, meatball, salad, bread, dessert, bottled water, lemonade or tea or coffee. A bowl of haluski will be available for $1.

Patrons can dine in or get takeout.

The fundraiser will include a Chinese auction; a drawing for a Glock 9mm Custom Cerakoted with a battle-worn American flag; and a drawing for two Steelers vs. Ravens tickets for the Sept. 30 game in Pittsburgh. Talamonti has been battling cancer since April 2016.
