Thirty-five area children participated in the 2018 Fishing Derby sponsored by Tomlinson Run State Park Foundation, which was held at the boat docks at Tomlinson Run State Park near New Manchester. The annual event is held in conjunction with Free Fishing Weekend, which is part of National Fishing and Boating Week, from June 2-10, and promotes safe boating and fishing around Father’s Day. Prizes were awarded in several categories, including longest, smallest, heaviest, most caught and oddest. First prize in each category was a $25 Wal-Mart gift card; second was a fishing pole; and third was a small tackle box. Only one prize was awarded in the oddest category with the winner receiving a large tackle box. First, second, and third prizes in the longest category went to Dylan Brown, Jonathan Beaver and Kylie Robinson respectively. First, second, and third prizes in the smallest category went to Brooklyn Shaw, Macy Jones and Chloe Ball, respectively. First, second and third prizes in the heaviest category went to Wyatt Markowicz, Kylie Robinson and Brooklyn Shaw, respectively. First, second, and third prizes in the most-caught category went to Andrew Campbell, Sierra Beaver and Darius Price, respectively. Andrew Campbell won the prize for oddest fish caught.
