East Springfield Center hosting

monthly dinner on Thursday

EAST SPRINGFIELD — The East Springfield Community Recreation and Service Center will host its monthly fundraiser dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The menu includes baked chicken breasts, legs and thighs, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, noodles, dessert and drink. The cost is $8. Children younger than 6 eat for free.

The center is located on county Road 39 next to the East Springfield Volunteer Fire Hall.

Dance, bingo are scheduled at

Greater Weirton Senior Center

WEIRTON — The Greater Weirton Senior Citizens Center at 3539 Main St., Weirton, will hold a dance Thursday, featuring music by the Sands of Time.

Doors open at 5 p.m., and the band plays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $5. There will be free refreshments.

Bingo will be held at the center on Friday, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Early bird starts at 6 p.m. with regular bingo beginning at 6:30 p.m. Concessions will be available.

Summer open houses kick

off Sunday at Richmond museum

RICHMOND — The Richmond Community Historical Society has announced the dates and times of open houses to be held at the Crew House Museum on Sundays throughout the summer months.

Open houses will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday and June 24; July 8 and 15; and Aug. 5 and 19.

The museum, which is located on Main Street, features a variety of Richmond memorabilia along with dedicated space on the upper floor as the “J.U. Room,” a showcase of items from the former Jefferson Union High School.

There is no admission to visit the museum, but donations are welcomed.

The historical society has various items for sale, including pottery mugs for $12; salt crocks for $20; and pitchers for $25. The glazed stoneware items have “Richmond ~ Ohio” on them. The items are made in Scenery Hill, Pa.

The historical society meets every other month on the third Tuesday at the Crew House Museum, beginning at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in local history is welcome to attend meetings or join the historical society. Annual dues are $5.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on July 17.

Bethany Woman’s Club makes

donations, discusses activities

BETHANY — The GFWC WV Bethany Woman’s Club met May 21 with Helen Moren, president, presiding.

Devotions was led by Judy Vanhorn, and reports were presented by Charlotte Chambers, secretary, and Moren.

Donations were made to the Derek Eisenhaurer Scholarship Fund, GFWC Domestic Violence Scholarship, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, March of Dimes and Gabriel’s Project.

Members will be collecting items for the children’s hospital in Morgantown as part of the GFWC WV president’s special project.

Plans were made for the Northern District fall convention, which will be held Oct. 20 in Bethany.

Moren will be attending the GFWC international convention this month in St. Louis.

The club will break for the summer and resume meetings in September.

Churches team up to present

Praise in the Park Saturday

FOLLANSBEE — Several local churches are teaming to present an evening of food and music for the third-annual Praise in the Park event Saturday at Follansbee Park.

Christian bands from three churches are set to perform beginning at 5 p.m., and city officials have agreed to serve hot dogs.

There also will be a table where children may make crafts, and a tent where people may make prayer requests.

Organizers also will recognize principals who have led Follansbee Middle School over the years, because the school was closed this year.

The event will end with prayers for the community’s needs at about 8 p.m.

It involves members of Follansbee Church of Christ, the Christian Assembly of Follansbee, Open Door Baptist Church of Colliers, Follansbee United Methodist Church, Follansbee Presbyterian, Calvary Baptist Church of Colliers and others.

AED, first aid instruction class

WEIRTON — An American Heart Association class in first aid and use of the automatic external defibrillator will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 15 at the Brooke-Hancock Family Resource Network.

The cost is $15 to receive a certificate and $40 to receive a wallet card and can be paid on that day.
