Elks Junior Teens announced

WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Elks Lodge has named Junior Teens of the Month for November through February.

They are Emma Martino and Josh McAvoy, for November; Jaclin Hedmond for December; Alexis Faessel for January and Franchesca Higgins for February.

All are pupils at Follansbee Middle School.

The daughter of Anthony and Michele Martino of Follansbee, Martino is regularly on the principal’s honor roll, has placed first in Math Field Day for her grade division two consecutive years and has won numerous awards in cheering.

She is captain of the cheering squad and the Follansbee Girls Softball League. She attends St. Anthony Catholic Church and has served as a page for the state House of Delegates.

The son of Matthew and Amber McAvoy, McAvoy is regularly on the honor roll. He has played on the Blue Waves basketball and football team, in the Follansbee Youth Basketball League and on the Brooke Junior Bruins football team.

He also volunteered for the Kohl’s Message of Hope Foundation.

The daughter of Theresa Comisso of Follansbee, Hedmond is regularly on the principal’s honor roll. She is a Blue Waves cheerleader and is on the track team. She served as a page for the state House of Delegates and volunteers with many activities at St. John Catholic Church, where is a member, and at the Weirton Greek Festival.

Faessel is the daughter of Tom and Jessica Faessel of Follansbee. She has been named to the principal’s honor roll and is president of the Follansbee Middle Afterschool Gaming Club and is on her school’s volleyball team.

She enjoys art, is active in 4-H and is president of the Theater Club, appearing as the lead and in other parts in school plays.

The daughter of Robert Higgins and Cari Diserio of Follansbee, Higgins is on the principal’s honor roll and has competed in spelling bees, the West Virginia Young Writers competition and Math Field Day.

She is a member of the (S.P.L.A.S.H.) Club, an acronym for Students Promoting Love, Awareness, Social Skills and Happiness, the basketball team and the Follansbee Girls Softball League and does summer volunteer work involving horses.

The Wellsburg Elks Lodge accepts applications for Junior Teen and Teen of the Month for each month from boys and girls from Follansbee and Wellsburg schools but hasn’t received applications from boys and girls for every month.
