‘Wonder’ being shown

for Friday movie night

EAST SPRINGFIELD — The United Methodist Church of the Cross, located at 7712 state Hwy. 43, will host movie night on Friday, featuring “Wonder.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the movie that begins at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available at the movie that is free and open to the public.

“Wonder” is a 2017 movie starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay and is based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name. It tells “the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time.”

Bell Chapel UMC to host

chicken and biscuit dinner

STEUBENVILLE — Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, 3149 state Route 213, will host a chicken and biscuit dinner fundraiser from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. April 7.

The meal cost is $10 for adults and $7 for children ages 7-12. Children 6 and under eat for free.

Church Women United board

scheduled to meet Friday

WEIRTON — The Church Women United executive board will meet at 10 a.m. on Friday at the First Baptist Church, located at Homewood Avenue and Adams St.

Nancy Sanders will meet with second-year delegates to plan the May Friendship Day celebration. Cathy Cooper is unit president.

Oakland’s Easter sunrise

service starts at 7 a.m.

WEIRTON — Oakland Presbyterian Church, Wylie Ridge Road, Weirton, will hold its Easter sunrise service on Sunday, beginning at 7 a.m. The men of the church will serve breakfast after the service. Regular Easter Sunday services will be held at 11 a.m.

Riverview women prepare

baskets for shut-ins

TORONTO — Hostesses Pam Dunlap and Regina Grygo welcomed attendees to the March 21 meeting of the Riverview United Methodist Women held in the church fellowship hall.

Members prepared Easter baskets for shut-ins associated with the church. The baskets contain a puzzle book, tissues, candies, a drink, chips and an inspirational card. The baskets were to be delivered during Holy week. Members also prepared eggs for the Easter egg hunt being held today.

The group will donate a kitchen basket for the Karen Carnahan McAdoo fundraiser on April 8.

Toronto Catholic Women

updated on activities

TORONTO — The Toronto Catholic Women met March 14, gathering in the sanctuary for Rosary and continuing their business meeting in the social hall.

Discussion was held on the group’s pierogi and nut roll sales. They are sold following all the weekend Masses.

The Comfort Bears Committee meets the second Monday of the month. They planned to make and deliver Easter gifts to shut-ins.

The club will be participating in a reception for the confirmation class on April 8, and the dinner for priests and reception for the ordination to the priesthood of Joshua Erickson in May.

President Dede Kidder reported on the deanery news. The Boxes of Joy project will be sponsored again this year by Mother of Hope Deanery, starting in September. The annual Day with the Bishop will be held in Toronto in October.

The next scheduled meeting is April 18. Kidder closed the meeting with prayer. A time of fellowship followed.

Annual revival services set

at E.S. Christ United Methodist

EAST SPRINGFIELD — East Springfield Christ United Methodist Church, off county Road 39 at 220 Church St., will host its annual three-day revival services April 8-10, beginning at 6:30 p.m. each day.

The services will be led by the Rev. Jerralyn “Jeri” Myers of Leesville United Methodist Church.

Special music will include the Chrisagis Brothers, April 8; Call to Worship trio on April 9; and the Doc Roe Trio on April 10.

Refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow each service.

UMW Sunday April 8

at Richmond UMC

RICHMOND — The Richmond United Methodist Women met March 22 in the church social hall with Connie Somerville leading the program on “Legacy,” passing leadership to families and through the Church.

“We are the next layer of faith, love, mercy, peace and justice for future generations, so the world will share in the legacy of faith,” Somerville told the group.

Cheryl Cline read from Luke; Somerville read from Kings II; and Gloria Mercer read from Numbers.

President Sandy Burruss presided at the meeting where Vice President Gloria Mercer reviewed plans for U.M.W. Sunday set for April 8; for the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association luncheon on April 10; and the spring district meeting April 19 in New Rumley.

Mercer reviewed two books from the reading program — “Where the River Runs” and “Slowing Time.” Marge Andres read from the prayer calendar. The mission focus was Haitian Artisans for Peace International with camper scholarships the district focus.

Sue Frye closed the meeting with prayer. Jan Mason was hostess.

Follansbee UMC making plans

for two-day rummage sale

FOLLANSBEE — The Follansbee United Methodist Church’s spring rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 12 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 13.

The sale location is in the Follansbee Park Community House, 1455 Park Lane. There is ample parking and a handicap entrance.

Donations for the sale are welcome from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sveta Petka Kolo members

discuss nutcracker design

STEUBENVILLE — The Sveta Petka Kolo met March 1 at Eat ‘n Park where plans were discussed for a nutcracker representing a Serbian woman in traditional costume to be part of the Steubenville Nutcracker Village.

It was noted that since the church has changed its annual picnic to July 14, church women will be asked to bake and to help that day.

The next meeting will be held April 12, a later date because of Holy Week.
