Academy showcases spring class lineup

OPEN HOUSE HELD — In preparation for the start of the spring round of class offerings, an open house was held Saturday by the Academy of Lifelong Learning in the seminar room of the St. Joseph Center on the campus of the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Hopes of spring and new opportunities to learn were evident Saturday when returning and prospective members of the Academy of Lifelong Learning turned out to get a glimpse of what the spring semester will offer — classes and field trips.

Green attire and accessories made it obvious as well that the open house held at the St. Joseph Center on the campus of Franciscan University of Steubenville, academy sponsor, was falling on St. Patrick’s Day.

Iris Craig, academy president, welcomed the audience, and several instructors were on hand to shed insight on what some of the learning adventures will entail. New this semester, for example, is a visit to the Pretty Boy Floyd Museum in East Liverpool on May 3 and an April 24 visit to East Liverpool as well where instructors Donna and Bill Gray, authors and pottery experts, will lead a tour of the Museum of Ceramics, the Thompson House mansion, the new community center mini-museum of Harker Pottery and their home.

The spring semester runs from April 2 through May 11. The academy is open to all Tri-State Area residents age 50 and older and offers continuing educational opportunities. Membership is $50 per person per semester and $80 for a married couple.

For information, contact Craig at (740) 544-5169 or iris.213@yahoo.com. or Marisa Ross, administrative assistant, community relations department at Franciscan, at (740) 283-6406.
