Greater Weirton Senior Center holds Christmas dinner-dance, hosting several January events

WEIRTON — The Greater Weirton Senior Citizens Center, located at 3539 Main St., held its annual Christmas dinner-dance on Dec. 15.

“The evening was a great success with 71 attendees,” a center spokesperson noted. Music was provided by Light Touch for dancing and listening enjoyment, and Santa and Mrs. Claus were welcomed as special visitors.

This year’s dinner-dance was organized by members Emma Anderson, Bob Koon and Administrative Assistant Kristina Linger with assistance from volunteers Ruth Sperry, Hattie Adams, Jan Schoup and Janet Hayhurst. The rigatoni meal was prepared by John Pennachio Sr.

“The senior center board of directors is thankful to all who helped and all who attended,” the spokesperson added.

Upcoming events at the center include the following:

¯ THURSDAY: The Sands of Time Band will perform. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the band will play from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

¯ JAN. 12: The center will be re-introducing bingo on the second Friday of each month. Early bingo will be at 6 p.m., and regular bingo will be at 7 p.m.

¯ JAN. 18: The center will host a substitute band until Light Touch is available. Neon Knights will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
