Planters decorated for holiday

-- Contributed

Willie Balt, chair of the Chester Arts Club Community Improvement Committee, organized members to decorate the planters along Carolina Avenue in Chester for the Christmas season. Velma Jackson, local artist and member, has maintained the wooden snowmen heads. Pine boughs and Christmas ornaments were added “to complete the beautiful appearance and addition for our Hometown Christmas celebration,” a spokesperson noted. The Chester Arts Club members maintain the planters throughout the year, adding flowers and decorations as the seasons progress. The club also has a fundraiser drawing of more than $435 in gift cards to contribute money to local charities, including, but not limited to, FISH, Comfort House, Never Alone, the W.Va. Veterans Home, the Red Cross blood drive and Shop with a Cop. The arts club is accepting names for new members. Anyone interested may contact Treasurer Mary Ann Wright at (3040 387-1571. With one of the planters are, from left, Marlene Flemming Murray, Janet Geible, Wright and Balt.
