Stand Down for Homeless Veterans and Veterans to be held Wednesday

WHEELING — Homeless veterans and veterans needing a little help and their families are invited to a free event where their questions and concerns may be addressed.

A Stand Down for Homeless Veterans and Veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Education Building at West Virginia Northern Community College.

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Wheeling Vet Center, Workforce West Virginia and VA Healthcare Systems and many community partners are working to eradicate veteran homelessness.

During the Stand Down, homeless veterans and other veterans will learn of the various resources the VA and other community providers can assist them with including, VA surplus for all veterans, clothing, health screenings, medical care, hygiene products, rapid re-housing, prevention of substance abuse, help with addictions, counseling, spiritual support, employment and training opportunities.

There will be give-aways and door prizes of items donated by community members and businesses.

While there, everyone also will have the opportunity to learn about services provided by many area organizations.
