Fidelis Gamma Chapter celebrates Founder’s Day, member birthdays

WEIRTON — The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Teachers Sorority met Oct. 5 at Williams Country Club with President Ruth Fuller welcoming members and introducing guest Sandi Anderson.

The room was decorated with African Violets and birthday items. Hostesses were Chris Snyder, Lisa Subrick and Carolyn Allison.

Bonnie Queses read the devotions titled “A Mother’s Fight for a Special Child” and gave the blessing.

In recognition of all birthdays, each “sister” gave her birthday month and day, and Fuller read a poem titled “Another Year.” Queses and Nancy Conley provided music for the party with a birthday sing-along. Cupcakes were given as favors.

Reports were given by Janet Benzo, Carolyn Allison and Lisa Subrick.

Fuller reminded members to bring magazines for Weirton Medical Center waiting rooms. Collected card fronts will be given to Oak Glen Middle School and the Brooke County Public Library for math and craft projects. Chris Snyder reported that greeting cards were sent to three limited members, and one card was sent to a member who relocated.

October is Alpha Delta Kappa month, and committee chair member Lisa Subrick reported that school supplies will be delivered to a local school.

Allison gave the membership report.

A Founders’ Day program was presented by Jerry DeFilippo, Conley and Queses. Members led the group in a rap titled “A Founders’ Day Rap” by Brenda Giannis.

Fuller presented highlights of the chapter needs assessment. Members were provided with a list of possible future speakers and programs.

Members were encouraged to attend the Ohio Valley District Fall Meeting set for Oct. 28 at the Immaculate Conception Church in New Cumberland. Reservations are due by Saturday.

Liz Pugh gave a report on the nominating committee, and the 2018 Hostess sheet was distributed for members to sign.

Elaine McClung and Barbara DeLong will serves as hostesses at the next meeting, set for Nov. 2.
