Art association to host
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville Art Association will host Phiris Kathryn Sickels of Pittsburgh at a Wednesday workshop and evening meeting, both in the conference room at Historic Fort Steuben, Steubenville.
The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the meeting demonstration begins at 7 p.m.
Sickels is an accomplished watercolorist who will share her acrylic ink painting techniques in which she now works. She is the president of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and is involved as well in the Pittsburgh Society of Artists and Associated Artist of Pittsburgh.

Flu shot clinic scheduled
Monday at Gathering Place
BURGETTSTOWN — The Gathering Place Coffee Shop at Paris Presbyterian Church, 127 Steubenville Pike, will host a flu shot clinic from noon to 2 p.m. Monday.
Shots will be provided by the Rite Aid Pharmacy Burgettstown. Advance notice can accommodate additional immunizations against pneumonia, shingles and other common diseases. If insurance does not cover the flu shot, the cost is $34.99.
The event is open to all in the community.

Adults: Trivia Night will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. Form a team or watch others play. For information, call the library.

Children: Tot Time, for parents with children ages 2-4, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Stories, songs and rhymes are shared along with tips to promote early literacy skills. Register by calling the library.

Children: Babygarten, for parents with children birth to 2, will be held at 11:15 a.m. Thursday. This is a lap-sit program that involves rhymes, books and songs to help babies with language development. There is no registration.
Story Time, for children ages 5-10, will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Story Time offers stories, rhymes and an art activity. Register by calling the library.
Adults: Book Club will meet for discussion at 10 a.m. Oct. 17. Call to join.

Adults and teens: Sample fresh apple juice and learn about life on an apple orchard with Packer’s Orchard on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Call to register.
Children: Play and Learn the Alphabet, for parents with children ages 2-6, will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. This is an hour-long play session that uses letter-learning toys. No registration is needed.

Mount Zion Baptist Church
plans music workshop
STEUBENVILLE — Mount Zion Baptist Church Voices of Zion in Steubenville will kick off its annual music workshop Saturday with registration at noon, followed by a smorgasbord luncheon.
The workshop rehearsal will begin after the luncheon and under the direction of Minister Eric Dyson of Cleveland. The choir will learn songs that will be performed in concert Sunday. The workshop registration fee is $10. All churches and denominations are invited to join the workshop choir. The workshop choir will be presented in concert on Sunday, beginning at 5 p.m. There will be a freewill love offering.
The Mass Choir members are Wylene Alexander, Norman Creech, Ruth Pendergrast, Floretta Hampton, Vanessa Styles, Rose Slaughter, Cheryl Austin, Paulette Johnson, Barbara J. Miller, Diane Pendergrast, Isabelle Lavender, Charlene Reid, Estelle Dalton and Michael Jett. Bishop Jermaine Moore Sr. is the pastor.
Brooke crocheting group
meeting on Wednesday
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library’s crocheting group will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The free group is for adults, beginners through experts. Monthly jam sessions on third
Thursday at Follansbee church
FOLLANSBEE — There’s some jamming going on at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 425 Rockdale Road.
And that has been happening at the Hooverson Heights church for the past six months on the third Thursday of the month, beginning at 7 p.m.
The jam sessions are open to the public — as listeners or performers, who are welcome to bring their instruments and voices to share Christian or country music. Anyone can play, sing or listen. Free refreshments available.
The next jam session will be held Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m. Tim Colvin is the church’s pastor.
