Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children between the ages of 21/2 and 18 who are living with critical illness. The child’s specialist determines medical eligibility. Wishes tend to fall into five categories — gift wish, celebrity wish, travel wish, occupational wish and giving wish. The first wish was for a 7-year-old boy who wished to go to Texas to visit his uncle for one of his famous piggy-back rides, according to Make-A-wish fact sheet.
