WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
A flag tournament was held on July 5 by the Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association with Shelle Pentes as hostess.
The golfers dressed in patriotic colors, and each was given a small American flag, which she planted on the golf course when her score totaled 72 plus her handicap.
Marilyn Kenny was the first flight winner, and she also took the prize for low putts. Dianna Adams claimed the second flight win.
Kenny recorded birdies on the seventh hole and the 12th hole.
Dotty Tegano was the flag tournament winner in the nine-hole group.
On July 12 an even hole tournament was played with Theresa Metcalf and Shelle Pentes as hostesses. Scores on the even holes were totaled, and one half handicap was subtracted to determine the winners.
Marilyn Kenny was the first flight winner and also took low putts. Pam DiDomenico won the second flight prize.
There were no chip-ins, so the money cup will carry over for another week.
A brief business meeting was held following golf. Plans were finalized for the team apparel to be worn for the East Central Tournament to be held on Aug. 4 at Cambridge Country Club with a practice round on Aug. 3.
The women also discussed their tournament to be held on July 26 to benefit the Cancer Dietary Initiative, a food pantry for local cancer patients. Dianna Adams, Marilyn Kenny and Theresa Metcalf are in charge of the event.
This week’s game will be the Pink and Blue Tournament. Golfers are to report at 8:30 a.m. for a 9 a.m. start. Nine-hole golfers will start at 10 a.m.
