American Legion Riders plan Memorial Brick Run Saturday

WINTERSVILLE — The American Legion Riders of Stevens-Christian Memorial Post 557, will hold their third-annual Memorial Brick Run on Saturday.

It is open to the public.

Registration is at 9:30 a.m. at the post located at 1212 Two Ridge Road, Wintersville, with departure time set for 10:30 a.m. and the return time anticipated to be by 5 p.m.

The cost is $15 a person for the ride, which includes a T-shirt, dinner and entertainment.

A special guest will be U.S. Rep Bill Johnson, R-Marietta, who will be traveling with the group to the Ohio Veterans Memorial Park in Clinton, Ohio, and speaking there. The park was built by an all-volunteer work force, according to its website, and is funded by donations.

The Legion Riders escort and place memorial bricks there for veterans. The memorial pavers make up part of the Memorial Walkway and are a way for to honor veterans, regardless of whether they served during war or peacetime, according to the website.

Back at the Wintersville post, the spaghetti dinner begins at 6 p.m., and the fee for dinner-only guests is $10. Music will be provided by Dave Morgan from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The fundraiser also will include a Chinese auction and a 50-50 drawing. There will be a special auction of a Dave Barnhouse print signed and numbered and professionally framed and matted.

All proceeds from “A Ride to Remember” will benefit brick purchases and the Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Smooth Country dance band

at Country Friends Saturday

COLLIERS — Country Friends will host the Smooth Country dance band Saturday at Memorial Hall located at 67 Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. Guest may bring a covered dish for the meal at the 8:30 p.m. intermission.

There will be a $5 per person donation requested.
