STEUBENVILLE — It’s a new year, and the Ohio Valley Business and Professional Women members are ready to forge ahead with their first meeting of 2017 and with it make plans for the organization’s key fundraiser come spring.

The OVBPW members and prospective members and guests will gather for a catered dinner and meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the meeting room of the Schiappa Branch of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.

“We have a big start to our year as we prepare for our fundraiser in March,” notes Sara Lane, president, referring to the group’s annual “Wine and Shoe Extravaganza” fundraiser to be held in March.

Specifics about the event will be discussed, according to Lane. The event generates money for the group to award three scholarships — a traditional scholarship; a scholarship for a nontraditional student; and a Nike Club scholarship. The Nike Club is a Steubenville High School organization mentored by the OVBPW.

“The guest speaker for our meeting will be Angela Icuss Lombardo, who will be teaching us how to eat better and giving us a sneak peak on her upcoming business,” Lane said. Other officers of the group, aside from Lane, are Jennifer Atchison, vice president; Marie-Helene Wilson, treasurer; and Mary Lou Jones, secretary.

Anyone interested in attending the January meeting should RSVP today to Lane’s e-mail at SaraLaneBPW@yahoo.com or on the Ohio Valley BPW Facebook page. The dinner cost is $15.

The OVBPW holds dinner meetings for a $15 reservation fee May through September at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at various locations. It connects its members with mentors, colleagues and friends for career networking and supports women through career transitions and at different levels of industry. Annual membership is $40.

“Our group is focusing on empowering women by positively building each other up — helping one another to achieve our personal goals by creating a network of women to lend advice and opinions in a fun, relaxed atmosphere,” Lane said.

“We are always welcoming new members to our group,” Lane said.
