Extravaganza Feb. 12 to aid St. Vincent de Paul Ministry
WINTERSVILLE — The eighth-annual St. Vincent de Paul Ministry Valentine’s Craft Extravaganza will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 12 at Blessed Sacrament Church, Sargus Hall, 852 Main St., Wintersville.
Linda Freed, event coordinator, said local artisans will sell baked goods, candles, jewelry and other handcrafted items during the extravaganza, the only fundraiser held annually to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry.
The ministry operates a food pantry and distributes free food to qualified households in the Wintersville and Bloomingdale areas, according to Elane Renzelli, director, who said the ministry is a combined effort of Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Lourdes parishes.
The money raised at the extravaganza is used to purchase food for the ministry, which Renzelli said provides 21 meals for each person who calls for the distribution the third week of each month.
In 2016, the group gave out more than 50,000 meals as well as food baskets and candy at Easter, food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas and gifts for children at Christmas.
Throughout the extravaganza, vendors will offer samples, and drawings will be held for handmade items, Freed said.
