Mingo Lions plan Christmas party, host zone meeting

MINGO JUNCTION — The Mingo Lions Club held its November dinner meeting at the home of Jeff Schuetz with President William Snyder presiding.

The drawing was held for the turkey/ham fundraiser with Dr. William Johns and Kathy Freiling each winning a turkey.  The ham drawing will be held Dec. 19.

Plans were finalized for the Christmas party to be held Dec. 19 at Schuetz’s residence. The covered-dish event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include a white elephant sale. Members who wish to receive a door prize should bring one.

The club received a membership satisfaction banner patch from international, having met the membership development goals of the membership satisfaction award in Lions year 2015-16. It was noted the club exemplifies the Lions’ mission statement “to empower volunteers to service their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through the Lions club.”

Several members recycled to benefit the local schools.

Birthdays were recognized.

The closing prayer was led by Karen Edwards.

Following the meeting, a zone meeting was held and hosted by the Mingo Lions Club.

President William Snyder gave the welcome along with Zone 8 Chair Terry Snyder.

Tim Walters of the Steubenville Lions Club gave the invocation.

Guests on hand were Jim Coffey of Toronto, past international director; LCIF State Committee Member and Coordinator Georgia Taylor; and Gene Taylor, past district governor. Georgia Taylor discussed  donations for LCIF and the various causes that can be earmarked with the donation. Members of the individual clubs can donate in addition to the club donation. She also discussed the Melvin Jones Foundation.

Clubs represented at the zone meeting were Brilliant, Mingo Junction, Richmond and Toronto. Walters from the Steubenville club also  is a representative for the Leo club.

Zone 8 Chair Terry Snyder presented Milestone Chevron Awards for members of the Toronto, Brilliant, Mingo and Steubenville clubs. The Milestone Chevron Award recognizes members’ anniversaries because “they are a reminder of the milestones in our lives. They give us the opportunity to celebrate, commemorate and reflect on the mountains we have climbed together.”

Walters gave a Leo report on Veterans Day and upcoming events.

Pins were available for the Ohio State Band for the Blind.  It is to help raise money for sending the band to Chicago.

It was announced that Zone 8 had 100 percent participation in the military boxes project.

The new District OH3 pin is available, it was announced.
