Weirton Lions Club will hold

Halloween party Oct. 29

WEIRTON — The Weirton Lions Club will host a Halloween party for adults from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Victorian Hall located on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Disc Jockey Dan Conner will provide music. Finger foods and beverages will be available, and those attending may bring their own bottle. Costumes are optional, and prizes will be awarded.

Proceeds benefit the club’s community projects.

Country Friends Band

to entertain Saturday

COLLIERS — The Country Friends Band will entertain Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Old Police Lodge Road.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

Mondays and Fridays are open mic, and the last Friday of the month is Gospel Night with a donation made to a church or charity. Doors open at 4 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. Participants should bring a covered dish for the meal, which begins at 5 p.m.

Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity.

set to meet Monday

WEIRTON — The Weirton Steel Management Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Giovanni’s Restaurant. All members and former members are invited to attend the dinner and social time.

Wine tasting set for Saturday

to benefit AHEPA charities

STEUBENVILLE — The AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) Fraternal Order is hosting its sixth-annual wine tasting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Hellenic Hall at 300 S. Fourth St., Steubenville. There also will be a silent auction.

Tickets are a $15 donation and are available at the Winemakers Loft in Follansbee. Proceeds benefit AHEPA charities. Selected this year is the Nicole (Maragos) Zorne Cancer Fund.

The wine-tasting will feature the homemade wines of members of the Tri-State Winemakers Club with more than 14 winemakers presenting a variety of reds and whites, sweet to dry, “to suit everyone’s palate.”

Greek hors d’oeuvres will be presented, including rolled grape leaves (dolmathes); seasoned meat balls (kefdethes); and a cheese variety and spreads. Desserts will include baklava.

Retired school employees

contemplate Christmas project

STEUBENVILLE — Twenty-three Steubenville City Schools retirees gathered for lunch Oct. 13 at the Crooked Dock in Wellsburg.

Barbara Crugnale distributed pumpkin rolls. Cards were signed for ill retirees.

Money is being collected to help needy adults for Christmas. Becky Bryan will go through local agencies to find the adults who will be helped. Money will be collected at the November and December lunches.

The group’s “Retired Teacher Nutcracker” is ready for the 2016 Steubenville Nutcracker Village and Advent Market, opening on Light-Up Night on Nov. 22.

The group will meet for lunch Nov. 10 at The Farm and Dec. 8 at JC Wine Cellar. Naples is scheduled for January and The Ville for February.

Golden Horseshoe 4-H Club taking orders for wreaths

SMITHFIELD — Golden Horseshoe 4-H Club members are taking orders for wreaths with a Tuesday due date, and fees also are due for the club T-shirts.

The reminders were issued by adviser Carolyn Piergallini during the meeting held in her home. There were 15 members and 10 guests present. Karacel Haymen led in the flag and 4-H pledges.

A discussion was held on community projects and the work done on the cookie dough sale project,

The 4-H achievement meeting is set for 4 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Jefferson County Fair kitchen.

Nominees sought for MLK

Living the Dream MLK awards

CHARLESTON — The Martin Luther King Jr. State Holiday Commission is seeking nominations of individuals and organizations for the 2017 Living the Dream Awards.

Categories include Advocate of Peace, Sharing of Self, Human and Civil Rights, Scholarship and the prestigious Governor’s Living the Dream Award. Organizations can be nominated for the Service Organization Honor Roll category.

Pie sale to benefit Brooke County Special Olympics

WELLSBURG — Brooke County Special Olympics will hold a pie sale, featuring a wide assortment of pies from The Pie Shoppe, through Nov. 1.

Pies with no sugar added or Splenda and pumpkin rolls, which may be frozen, will be among the many items for sale.

The pies will be delivered Nov. 13.

Toronto Sunrise Seniors

welcome guest, plan trips

TORONTO — A room full of members at the Roosevelt Recreation Center welcomed guest Bill Black to the Oct. 14 meeting of the Toronto Sunrise Seniors.

President Tim Gribben offered the welcome and blessing for the meal provided by Ken Mossor.

Reports were given by Secretary Mary Lou Deku; Treasurer Edna Riffle; and Social Secretary Barbara Pritts, who acknowledged October birthdays and anniversaries and gave a brief reading on friendship.

Laura Sheets and Cathy Samuel advised the group that the bus for the trip to see “Mennonite Girls Can Cook” would leave by 8 a.m. on Oct. 28 and would return in time for the 5 p.m. meeting.

The group also will travel on a Dec. 13 trip to see “Our Christmas Dinner” at the Ohio Star Theater in Sugarcreek. Ruth White reminded members that Undo’s Restaurant in Weirton would be the site for the Christmas meeting on Dec. 2.

The next meeting Oct. 28 will feature pizza.

Fire department to hold

Tool Time Tool Bash

WELLSBURG — The Franklin Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Tool Time Tool Bash, with food and chances on a variety of tools Saturday at the Wellsburg Banquet Hall on 12th Street.

Admission is $20, which includes food. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with drawings held every 10 minutes up to 9:35 p.m.

Drawings will be held for a tool workbench with tools, a Kobalt table saw, Stihl chain saw, a gas charcoal grill, Kobalt 20-gallon compressor and many other items.

Winners need not be present, but the prizes must be picked up within 30 days after the event.

There also will be small games and a 50-50 drawing.
