Scholarship donation presented

The Eastern Gateway Community College Foundation Inc. will celebrate the college’s 50th anniversary by offering 50 new $5,000 named scholarships by 2018. The nonprofit organization exists exclusively for advancing the various causes of the college and its students. Representatives of the Bergholz Community Foundation in Bergholz, Debbie Mallernee, left, and Marianne Featheringham, right, recently presented Baber with a check for scholarship purposes. The goal of the foundation, which established the scholarship in 2005, is to assist residents of the Edison Local School District pursuing an associate degree or certificate. Recipients must have a 2.5 GPA or above in high school or previous college work. The scholarship fund will be an endowed, restricted fund in which the interest income only shall be distributed for scholarship use. To establish a scholarship, including in honor of or in memory of another person, a donation or pledge of $5,000 or more is required. Once established, donations may be added to the scholarship’s principal to help it grow and last well into the future, according to a news release. For information, contact the college’s advancement and alumni office by phone at (740) 266-1902 or (740) 424-4090 or by e-mail to the foundation@egcc.edu.
