Learning with technology

-- Contributed

Children in Danielle Taylor’s class at St. Anthony’s Head Start in Steubenville play with Apple iPads from the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County. The iPads have educational apps that promote early literacy and preschool math concepts and were purchased along with board books with $28,800 given to the library through the Mary E. Snider Literacy Trust. Library staff are visiting Head Start centers throughout Jefferson County where at each visit, an e-book is read, educational apps are introduced, and children are given an iPad to play and learn. Misty Teasdale, the library’s children’s coordinator, said children at library branches also are using the iPads during early literacy programs such as Story Hour, Tot Time and Play and Learn the Alphabet. To register for and find out about programs for children, visit the library’s website at www.steubenvillelibrary.org.
