Bethany Church to mark

202nd anniversary Oct. 16

BETHANY — Castleman Run United Methodist Church will celebrate 202 years with a special homecoming service and luncheon on Oct. 16.

The worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by a covered-dish luncheon at noon and afternoon service, with music by the Steel City Quartet, at 1:30 p.m. Past and present members and others are welcome to attend.

Fundraiser dinner Sunday

to help local teenager

WELLSBURG — A spaghetti dinner to raise funds for treatment of William Moore, a teen with special needs, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Wellsburg Church of the Nazarene at 835 Washington Pike. The cost is a donation of the donor’s choice.

Philoptochos Society

holds dinner meeting

STEUBENVILLE — The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society held its membership drive dinner meeting Sept. 1 at the Ville Restaurant at the Fort Steuben Mall with President Rikki Kamarados presiding.

There were 17 members attending along with the Rev. Nicholas Halkias, who gave the opening prayer.

The women discussed the first gyro sale held Sept. 13 and the first Chicken Fest held Sept. 8, both at the church. The September charity went toward the breast cancer fund for Nicole Zorne. The next meeting will be held Oct. 9 at Janoski’s Farm Restaurant.

Soup and pie sale Oct. 7-8

at Harmony United Methodist

MINGO JUNCTION — Harmony United Methodist Church, 2119 Commercial St., Mingo Junction, will hold its fundraiser soup and pie sale Oct. 7 and 8.

Vegetable and bean soup will be available for $6 a quart. There will be a variety of pies available for $8 only on Oct. 8. The sale is for takeout with food ready for pickup after 11 a.m. Pre-orders and drop-ins are welcome. To place orders or for information, call Jim McClung at (740) 535-0730.

Richmond United Methodist Women present officers slate

RICHMOND — “What Do You Consider a Blessing?” was the topic of the program Gloria Mercer led when the United Methodist Women of Richmond United Methodist Church met Sept. 22.

Mercer posed the question “Are we willing to serve others?” and read a story about a refugee family. She closed her program with prayer, referencing II Corinthians 7-15.

President Sue Frye conducted the business session that included officers’ reports.

The nominating committee presented the following slate of officers: President, Sandy Burruss; vice president, Gloria Mercer; honorary vice president, the Rev. Georgette Gaston; secretary, Barbara Grimm; treasurer, Joyce Proffitt; prayer calender, Marguerite Andres; supportive community, Peggy Pratt; nominating committee, Cheryl Cline, Sue Frye and Twyla Pollock; hospitality, Marguerite Andres, Barbara Grimm, Sue Frye and Debbie Thomas; program planning, Gloria Mercer, Sandy Burruss, Joyce Proffitt, Barbara Grimm and Sue Frye; and publicity, Barbara Grimm.

The group voted to have officers serve two years instead of four.

The UMW will hold a bake sale at the church on Nov. 8, Election Day. The unit will serve the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association dinner on April 11 at the church.

Frye read an article about United Methodist Church Bishop Sally Dyck. The fall district meeting will be held in New Rumley, it was announced.

Cards were signed for shut-ins.

Barbara Grimm served as hostess.

Follansbee church hosting

pasta fundraiser dinner today

FOLLANSBEE — Follansbee United Presbyterian Church, at Main Street and Banfield Avenue, will hold a spaghetti dinner from noon to 4 p.m. today.

The cost is $10 for the dinner, which includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and a beverage. Take-out will be available.

Pleasant Valley Methodist

holding rummage sale Oct. 7-8

WEIRTON — The Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church will hold the semi-annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the church located at 101 Lisa Court.

There will be clothing and household items available.
