Steubenville club hosts district conference
STEUBENVILLE — Federated club women from throughout Southeastern Ohio gathered Sept. 17 at the Steubenville Country Club for the all-day district fall conference hosted by the GFWC/OFWC Woman’s Club of Steubenville.
Iris Craig, local club president, welcomed members representing clubs in the district, including Belpre Women’s Club, Circleville Junior Women’s Club, East Springfield Junior Women’s Club, Gallipolis Junior Women’s Club, Junior Women’s Club of Barnesville, GFWC Internet Service Providers, Proctorville Women’s Club Inc., the Woman’s Club of Steubenville, Wintersville Woman’s Club, Women’s Club of Adena, Woman’s Club of Mingo Junction and the Jefferson County Women’s Club.
The focus of the conference was to provide information on federation projects and programs, which were presented by state and district officers. Guest speakers included Lisa Hedrick, state GFWC/OFWC president; Linda Crish, state GFWC/OFWC first vice president; Deidre Devore, state junior director; and Pat Ketzell, Southeast District president.
Ketzell called the conference to order and introduced GFWC Ohio officers. An inspirational reading was given by Linda Nolf of the Wintersville Woman’s Club.
The conference included the presentation of special awards, including:
≤ Traveling gavel: Circleville Junior Women’s Club; and
≤ Lois Becker Award: Junior Women’s Club of Barnesville.
Announcements included:
≤ The 2016 Gold Star Mothers Pilgrimage will be held Sunday in Loudonville, Ohio, beginning at 2 p.m.;
≤ The Great Lakes Regional Conference, Lake Geneva, Wis., Oct. 28-30;
≤ Southeast District Legislation Day on March 18 at the Sleep Inn in Morristown, Ohio;
≤ The 2017 fall conference hosted by Circleville Junior Women’s Club;
≤ The 2018 Legislation Day, to be hosted by the Woman’s Club of Mingo Junction; and
≤ The 2018 fall conference to be hosted by Proctorville Woman’s Club.
Assisting Craig with arrangements for the fall conference from the Steubenville club were Roxanne Matysiak, reservations, and Eleanor Weiss and Marge Bedortha, registrations. The hospitality committee included Jan Rainbolt, Martha Olivito and Carlotta Jordan, and aides will be Beth Rupert Warren, Judy Brancazio, Linda Wells and Sophie Spencer.
