Caregiver appreciation event planned; nominations for Caregiver of Year sought

WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson County Caregiver Coalition will hold the annual caregiver appreciation luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 20 at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.

The event is free to a caregiver and one guest. Additional guests are $10 each.

A Jefferson County Caregiver of the Year also will be announced at the luncheon. To nominate a caregiver who resides in Jefferson County (their loved one may live anywhere), contact Holly Gadd of the Area Agency on Aging Region 9 at (800) 945-4250 ext. 4719 to receive a nomination form, or to make a reservation for the luncheon.

Caregiver of the Year nominations must be received no later than Oct. 13 to be considered for this year.  Nominations received after that date will be considered for next year’s award.

The purpose behind the event is to show the community’s appreciation for everything unpaid caregivers do for their loved ones.

“The unpaid caregiver, caring for a friend, family member or neighbor, takes a tremendous burden off of an already over-burdened resource system,” Gadd said.

“We can’t give the caregivers what they need, which is free services, but we can give them a few hours where we concentrate on them while providing information on available services in their community, answer questions and provide support,”  she added.

There will be a complimentary dinner and entertainment for the caregiver and one guest, along with mini-massages and door prizes for the caregivers. Although it is a free event, registration is necessary to attend.

Area businesses that would like to help sponsor the event can contact Gadd.

Sponsors on board include the Area Agency on Aging Region 9; the Laurels of Steubenville; Prime Time Office on Aging; Charity Hospice; Valley Hospice; Ten Lakes Center; Interim of S.E.O, Inc.; DeCaria Brothers Pharmacies; Capital Health Care Network; Simply E Z Home Delivered Meals; Dusini Drug Inc.; and Seeing Hand Association.
