Autumn Quest fundraiser to benefit Pine Grove United Methodist Church

HAMMONDSVILLE — Autumn Quest, a  dinner and silent auction set for Oct. 8, is a fundraiser to benefit the Pine Grove United Methodist Church located on county Road 72 in Hammondsville.

The dinner begins at 5 p.m. and the auction at 6 p.m., according to Pastor Jim Willson.

“At the dinner we are serving cranberry pork roast with mashed potatoes, two vegetables, rolls and butter, salad, dessert and beverage. Two meals for $25 — an evening for adults — followed with a silent auction,” he said.

A $25 ticket admits two adults and should be ordered before Oct. 1 by calling (740) 282-0795 or making a check payable to Pine Grove UMC and mailing it to Pine Grove UMC, c/o Rose Willson, 118 Lucy Drive, Toronto, Ohio, 43964

No tickets will be available at the door.

Pine Grove UMC has been at the present location since 1884, ministering to the congregation and the surrounding communities, according to Willson, who described the church as a small and active one in “a rural community where there are more cows then people. In fact we are so country, that we did not have indoor bathrooms or running water until 2001-2003, when the church was raised, and a basement was added so that these needs could be met.”

He continued, “In May of 2014, we installed and dedicated our stained glass window. The window was a labor of love as several of the women of the community and congregation designed and constructed and then saw to the installation.”

“Our little church has seen a lot,” Willson said, “and she is starting to show her age and in need of a facelift. By that I mean some plaster repair and some paint, etc. With us being a primarily older congregation, we have few, if any bodies able to do the physical work; therefore, we must hire to have it done. We all know that remodeling and general maintenance are expensive.”

Willson said the dinner and auction are to help generate the funds to cover the expenses.
