An evening of jazz and an unexpected farewell

Event co-chairs Debbie Elias, left, and Marie-Helene Wilson, both members of the board of directors -- Janice Kiaski

The Ohio Valley Music Guild’s “All About That Jazz” held Sept. 17 at the Steubenville Country Club and featuring the Jenny Wilson Trio was an evening to be savored as usual in the laid-back environment of good food, good music and good conversation that it offers.

Co-chaired by Debbie Elias and Marie-Helene Wilson, the event attracted a crowd of 135 who, as it turned out, would be seeing and hearing from  guild President Anita Jackson for the last time as Jackson passed away unexpectedly in the days immediately following what has come to be known as the guild’s Serendipity Cafe.

Jackson, who died Sept. 22 after a brief illness, was excited to be sharing news of how the guild would be hosting a November performance of some of the “Nutcracker” by the Pittsburgh Ballet Co. This, she had noted, would tie in nicely with the second-annual Advent Market and Nutcracker Village at Historic Fort Steuben in November and December. This performance will be held at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville with details to come at a later date. The guild has lost a friend and supporter in Jackson’s passing.
