BLACKMOOR

The Blackmoor Monday Ladies League played a N.O.S.E. event on Aug. 22.

Winner of the event was Yuko Atwell with low score. Lori Defallo and Lucy Karaan took low putts for the day.

Denise Augustine had closest to the pin on the second shot. She also had two birdies on holes No. 3 and 8. Longest drive honors went to Linda Caputo.

CADIZ COUNTRY CLUB

WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION

Aug. 24 was “a beautiful day” when the Cadiz Country Club Women’s Golf Association played the “Olympic Game,” where certain points were given for pars, bogies and double bogies.

Hostess Ginny Ferrell awarded the gold medal to Nep Rowland; the silver medal was won by Cathy Shepherd; and Glenda Sensel won the bronze medal.

The “Putt Pot” was won by Rowland and Peg Buchanan, who also had a chip-in on hole No. 15.

Rowland will be the hostess for Wednesday play.

DYER LADIES LEAGUE

Winners of the low net game Aug. 23 for the Dyer Ladies League were:

MOUNTAINEER’S WOODVIEW

WOMEN’S 18-HOLE GOLF LEAGUE

Mountaineer’s Woodview Women’s 18-Hole Golf League played the second week of the club championship Aug. 18. The winner of this year’s championship is Theresa Stotler with a two- week gross score of 159.

Runner-up for the event was Priscilla Mavrich with a two-week gross score of 167. Winning the low net was Bonnie Wujtow with a two-week net score of 133.

The weekly format of low gross and low net along with proximity prizes also was played. Winning low gross was Stotler with an 81. Taking first low net was Wujtow with a 58, and Cathy Ralston won second low net with a 67.

Closest to the pin winners were: No. 6, Stoter; No. 8, no winner; No. 14, Elaine Minda; and No. 17, Stotler.

Sinking the longest putt on No. 4 was Minda, and Stotler won lowest putts for the round with 29.

Birdies recorded for the round were: No. 11, Mary Ann Bainbridge; No. 12, Cathy Ralston; and No. 13, Mishal Hawthorne.

Chip-ins recorded for the round were: No. 11, Ralston; No. 13, Hawthorne; and Nos. 13 and 16.

SPRING HILLS LADIES

GOLF LEAGUE

Spring Hills Ladies Golf League played “Soothsayer” on Aug. 18  The object is players guess what their score will be at the end of nine holes.

A flight was a tie between Lori Szymanek and Neysa McCart.

B flight also was a tie between Brenda McCloskey and LeeAnn Grimm.

C flight also ended in a tie between Mary Alice Meyer and Tammy Cox.

All winners in A, B and C flight guessed one stroke under their actual score.

Long drive winners were: A flight, Lori Szymanek; B flight, Marge Alpino; and C flight, Tammy Cox.

Closest to the pin winners were: A flight, Dru Fleishour; B flight, Brenda McCloskey; and C flight, Tammy Cox.

Pat Carey had low putts with 15 putts.

Arlene Owens won the 50/50 drawing.

STEUBENVILLE COUNTRY CLUB

WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION

Marilyn Kenny won the 2016 club championship of the Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association after a competition featuring 36 holes of stroke play. This marked her second consecutive championship and the seventh time Kenny has won the title,  her previous wins coming  in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2010, 2013 and 2015.

The first round of the championship was played Aug. 10 with Kenny in the lead by three strokes after 18 holes.

The second round started Aug. 17, and the golfers completed the front nine before a heavy rain delayed play of the back nine until the following day.

Kenny recorded a 36-hole total of 175 to win the championship. Kim Criss took the runner-up spot and was the first flight winner with a score of 180. Several spectators gathered around the 18th  green at the conclusion of the tournament to congratulate Kenny and Criss on their outstanding rounds.

Pam DiDomenico was the second flight winner with a 36-hole total of 192. Her front nine score on Aug. 17 before the rain started was an impressive 39, the lowest score of the field. Shelle Pentes won the runner-up prize in the second flight with a score of 197.

Following the tournament, a luncheon was held in the clubhouse grill room with golf professional John Denholm offering a champagne toast to the winners. Dotty Tegano provided a decorated cake for the occasion.

Along with the club championship a gross, net and putts game was the weekly event with Kenny and Dianna Adams as hostesses. Winners were: DiDomenico, low gross with an 89;  Pentes, low net with a 70; and DiDomenico, low putts with 29.

Chip-ins were recorded by Pentes on the second hole for a par and DiDomenico on the fifth hole for a birdie. They shared the money cup.

On Aug. 24 the Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association played a 3-3-3 tournament with Marilyn Kenny as hostess.  Each golfer chose three par threes, three par fours and three par fives which counted for scoring with one-half handicap used to determine the winners.

YangJa Koh took first place and tied for low putts with Kenny, who won second place for the event. Theresa Metcalf was the third-place winner.

Kenny had a chip-in birdie on the seventh hole to claim the money cup, and Koh recorded a birdie on hole No. three.

In the nine-hole group, Dotty Tegano was the low gross winner, and Carol Oklok took low net and putts.

This week’s event will be “Beat the Pro” with Kenny and Dianna Adams as hostesses. Golfers are asked to report at 8:30 a.m. for a 9 a.m. start.
