Fourth-annual Ville Burnoff on July 12-13 at new location

Do you like ribs?

Then Rod Harton says Belleview Park in Steubenville is the place to be to get your fill and have some fun when the fourth-annual Ville Burn-off unfolds in that new location.

The rib burnoff moves from three years of having been held at Jim Wood Park to now being held at Belleview Park on July 12 and 13, both days from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Would-be competitors are encouraged to be a part of the event which this year welcomes the return of the awarding-winning Smoke Shack of Columbus; local two-time champion (2011 and 2012) Baby Boyz BBQ; and Reggie’s Finger-Licking Ribs, the second-place winner in 2013.

For information on competing, contact Harton by phone at (740) 284-2044 or by e-mail at Anyone can participate.

Ribs will be sold. Davis Food Express also will have concessions available, Harton said.

Judges will determine the winners with first place and second place each receiving a cash prize and trophy and third place receiving a trophy. Cash prizes will be divided depending on the number of entries.

The judging will be conducted at 5 p.m. on July 13.

There will be drawings for a variety of prizes, including Cleveland Cavaliers and Pittsburgh Pirates tickets and grills. Winners need not be present.

The family-friendly event also will include games and prizes for children. There also will be a disc jockey and the “1 Man Jazz Player, the D-Redd.” The Lupus Line Dancers will perform from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 13.

Harton, who enjoys cooking and grilling, said he and his friends once had back-yard, who’s-the-best-cook kind of friendly competitions, which is how this particular event came to be. Harton kicked it up a notch and organized the inaugural Ville Burn-Off in 2011 with plans to keep making it an annual tradition, something savory and special for the community to come out and enjoy.
