Camera club May winners listed

The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club has announced the winners for the May monthly competition in prints.

The winners for the topic of the month “Bokeh,” where the subject is in focus and the background blurred, were Barb Momyer, first place; Anissa Wellington, second place; and Lisa Carte, third place.

The winners for the open category included Andy Tindor, first place; Becky Mihopulos, second place; and Taerie Kelly, third place. For special effects, the winners were Angela McClain, first place; Debbie Snider, second place; and Sam Rees, third place.

There was no slide competition held in May because of a lack of enough participants. The May and June slide competitions will be held later in June.

Club member Stephen Mihopulos of St. Clairsville presented the workshop for May on the topic of “Photoshop Techniques.” Those interested club members who had Photoshop brought in their laptops. Mihopulos had a particular photo on his jump drive to copy to members’ computers so everyone could work on the same picture together. Mihopulos explained the icons found on the tool bar. After that, he guided club members through various processes and adjustments that could be made to the selected photo.

Several club members attended the field trip May 2-4 to Hocking Hills.

The club will operate a booth at “Thunder in the ‘Ville” June 28 at Indian Creek High School. The club will hold a picnic July 27 at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, Wintersville.

Whiting announced members may now enter prints in the monthly competition by e-mailing their photos to the competition chair, who will compile them in a digital slide show format. This will eliminate the need for members to bring in matted prints. The new format will be tested in the near future, and members will vote on whether to keep the new system or the old.

Members suggested future workshops focus on still life photography, night star trails and high definition resolution.

The next meeting will be the competition at 7 p.m. June 17 at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church located on state Route 43.
