Weirton club to host 48th-annual Book Review Luncheon
The Literary Department of the Weirton Woman’s Club, a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of West Virginia, will hold its 48th-annual book review luncheon on May 25 at the Serbian American Cultural Center in Weirton, beginning at 2 p.m.
“This is our first book review luncheon to be held at the Serbian American Cultural Center,” a club spokesperson said.
Nancy O’Leary of Wheeling, a member of the Wheeling Woman’s Club, will once again be the reviewer, adding her personal stamp to each book review luncheon she has done in past years.
O’Leary will review the book, “This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection” by Carol Burnett. Burnett talks about her career that spans more than 50 years and gives anecdotes and highlights of her sketches from the show. “It’s laughter all the way to her emergence as an American comic icon,” according to promotional material.
Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased from Book Review Luncheon Chairperson Sandy Robbins at (304) 723-4668. This event is open to the public, and, according to Robbins, “It is a wonderful way to welcome spring and to meet and chat with old friends over a delicious lunch and a lively book review.”
There will be a 50/50 drawing, a Kindle Fire HDX drawing, a used book sale and book door prizes. The Kindle Fire HDX drawing tickets also can be purchased at the Mary H. Weir Public Library during working hours.
“If you are looking for something different, please join us on May 25 for lunch and book review, and, remember, the Literary Department donates the proceeds from the book review to the Mary H, Weir Public Library, a United Way Agency,” the club spokesperson added.
The president of the Weirton Woman’s Club is Diane Pastoric. Diana Durst is the literary chairman.
