Cecilia Pesta celebrates 90th

Cecilia Pesta of Rayland, owner of Pestas Market, celebrated her 90th birthday recently with a black-and-white themed party at St. Johns Church in Mingo Junction that brought together approximately 100 family members, friends and customers who dressed in those colors.

Born on March 23, 1924, she is the daughter of the late Frances and Louis Ogrodowski who grew up in Pittsburgh, residing on 13th Street in the south side. She worked at McNeil’s Bakery, icing cakes and filling doughnuts.

She married David J. Pesta on July 23, 1946. They operated a dairy farm until 1998 with the location now used to raise cattle and hay. They also have Pestas Market in Mingo Junction where she was butcher and grocery clerk and still comes to the story daily to visit with friends and customers.

Her husband died in February 2001.

They have five children – Barbara of Smithfield and David, Mark, Tim and Rebecca, all of Rayland. There are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
