Women’s Golf


The Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association launched its 2014 golf season with a luncheon and business meeting in the clubhouse dining room after the opening day scramble was canceled due to inclement weather.

Officers for the season are: Dianna Adams and Marilyn Kenny, co-chairpersons; Theresa Metcalf, secretary; and Carol Oklok, treasurer.

Adams presided for the business meeting and welcomed the women to the new golf season. She distributed the 2014 golf books which outline the weekly golf events, couples golf events and committee appointments for the season.

Officers reports were given by Metcalf and Oklok. Committee chairmen for 2014 are: Hole-in-one and ringers and birdies, Kim Criss; awards, Criss and Shelle Pentes; lockers, Renee Morelli and Dotty Tegano; publicity, Metcalf; telephone, Carole Peterson and Tegano; junior golf, Shannon Irvin and DeeDee Scugoza; nominating committee, Criss, Adams and Pentes; rules, Golf Professional John Denholm and Kenny; Ryder Cup, Denholm; Rally for a Cure, Morelli, Natalie Straus and Tegano; East Central, Adams, Kenny and Criss; and closest to pin, Morelli and Metcalf.

Adams announced that the President’s Cup competition is scheduled for the last two Wednesdays in May and the first two Wednesdays in June. The best three out of four net scores will determine the winner of this highly regarded tournament.

Morelli reported that the annual Rally for a Cure will be held on July 16 with herself, Straus and Tegano in charge.

The women golfers will once again be assisting with the closest to the pin competition for the Pabian Tournament and the Firecracker Tournament held by the men golfers. Morelli and Metcalf will work these events. Scugoza and Irvin will handle the junior golf long drive contest which is held each year as part of the Fourth of July festivities at the club.

Adams reported on plans for the East Ohio Women’s Golf Association tournament which will be hosted by the Steubenville Country Club Women’s golf association on July 31 and Aug. 1 with several other clubs participating. Adams is being assisted by Kenny and Criss in planning for this major event.

Officers were hostesses for the opening luncheon where potted tulips used as centerpieces were awarded by random drawing to Straus, Adams, Oklok, Metcalf, Morelli and Tegano.

A mixed team, two-best-ball event is scheduled for April 30. Golfers are asked to report to the pro shop by 9:30 a.m. Eighteen-hole golfers will tee off at 10 a.m. with nine-hole golfers to follow.


The 2014 Dyer Ladies Golf League will begin May 6.

There will be a beif meeting at 5 p.m. with tee-off time at 5:30 p.m.

The event is a two-woman scramble/high-low HDCP teamed.

New members are always welcome to join and can “just show up.”

The Dyer members play at Dyer Country Club in Toronto every Tuesday from May through the beginning of September.

Notable dates for the year are:

May 20: Ryder Cup (member/guest day);

July 1: Firecracker 2 lady/1 best ball (open tournament);

August: Ringer tournament;

Aug. 26: League Tournament in flights;

Sept. 16: Awards banquet; and

Sept. 27: Oktoberfest two-woman scramble (open tournament).

Women’s Golf

Officers of the Spring Hills Ladies Golf Association met April 9 at the home of President Ann Eroshevich to plan for the upcoming season opener that will be held April 24 at Spring Hills Golf Course, East Springfield.

Tee-off will be at 5:30 p.m. Registration for play that night or for any other nights can be conducted by calling the club house at (740) 543-3270 by 4:30 p.m. the day of play. Any women interested in playing are encouraged to register.

Aside from Eroshevich, officers for the 2014 season are Tammy Cox, vice president; Claudia Norris, treasurer; and Eleanor Kindsvattter, secretary.

Judy Hare will assist Norris with some of the duties of treasurer.

The meeting included the review of the season schedule that will include:

Guest Day on June 26 with a Ryder Cup format – three holes will be scramble, three alternating shot and three best ball. There will be food and special prizes awarded.

The invitational will be held Aug. 7, to the theme “Be An Athletic Supporter.” Participants will be encouraged to wear their favorite team shirt or colors.

The club championship will be held Aug. 16.

The season will end with a banquet scheduled to be held Sept. 18.

There will be a meeting on the first Thursday of every month to keep everyone informed of upcoming events and planning and changing anything that needs discussed.
