Take ‘A Stroll Down Memory Lane’ at opera guild event

Don’t let the name deceive you.

The Upper Ohio Valley Opera Guild isn’t just about opera and is once again organizing a musical event that’s proof of that.

“A Stroll Down Memory Lane” – its first event of 2014 scheduled for April 13 – is one that will honor those who lived and served during the events of World War II by celebrating the traditional songs from that era.

“Special guest vocalists will take you back to the time when you enjoyed the entertaining sounds of the Andrew Sisters, Frank Sinatra and the big bands like Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey,” said Kathy Antinone, opera guild spokesperson.

The event will be held at the Steubenville Country Club, 413 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $35 per person which includes a buffet dinner. There is a special student price of $25.

Patrons will enjoy a buffet dinner as they listen to area high school students Katherine Moore of Catholic Central High School and Nicole Prichard of Steubenville High School who will share their talents with the brother-and-sister duo Laura Jurasko-Mason and Joseph Jurasko.

“All are and have been very active with singing lead parts in their respective high schools and university musical productions,” Antinone said. “The backup band is made up of area musicians,” she added.
