Although winter lingers, a springtime tradition is in the works.
The Steubenville Art Association is in the process of planning its annual spring show, with the exhibit scheduled to be held May 3-17 at Eastern Gateway Community College, according to Jim Watson, show chairman.
Artists are encouraged to complete their entries – up to three works – in time for the entry deadline from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on April 11 and from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on April 12 at EGCC.
Awards will be presented in the following categories: Best of show, merit awards, honorable mentions and special awards.
Christopher Leeper of Canfield will be the judge for the show, with that done on April 12.
The opening day show reception will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on May 3 with the awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
The exhibit will be open to the public from May 3-17 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. The college is closed on Sundays.
Any artist 18 and older can enter up to three works. All works must be original and must have been done within the past two years. All works must be framed, wired and ready for hanging. No sawtooth hangers will be accepted.
Size must not exceed 48 by 48 inches, including frame. There is a 50-pound weight limit. Media include oil, watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, colored pencil, stained glass, charcoal, pencil, batik, sculpture, pastel, mixed media mosaic and pottery. No photography or ceramics from molds will be accepted.
All art work must be hand delivered to the college. The completed label B must be attached to the upper left back corner of each piece. Entry form A should be completed and ready to turn in to a receiving committee member. The SAA will have a jury notification card ready for entrants to self-address. The card will be mailed to entrants on completion of the judging.
The entry fee for Steubenville Art Association members is $20 for up to three works. Entry fee for nonmembers is $25 for up to three works. Entry fees will not be refunded.
Monetary awards for winners will be $300 for best of show; $100 for eight merit award recipients; $30 for 10 honorable mention recipients; and $50 for one special award.
Works will be available for sale.
Pickup of the art pieces afterwards will be possible from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on May 19.
