Gallery to showcase camera club photos

WEIRTON – The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club will fill the Summit Art Gallery with more than 70 photos for the gallery’s first new installation of 2014.

To celebrate the new exhibit, the Hancock County Arts Council will host a reception for the public to view the photos and meet the photographers from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 3 at Summit Art Gallery at the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau located at 3393 Main St.

Light refreshments will be served.

“Photography is magic,” said Judi Noble, exhibit chair. “Through the camera lens, you can capture and freeze a moment in time that will never happen again. Not all photography is art, but, in the hands of an artist, the camera is just another fabulous tool. The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club’s photography will inspire you to look at the world in new ways.”

The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club, which currently has about 40 active members, focuses on learning and friendly competition and welcomes both beginners and experienced photographers. The group also hosts several exhibit opportunities and field trips throughout the year.

Information on the all-ages club is on Facebook and can be found online as well at www.uovcc.org. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, located on state Route 22, just past Kings Restaurant in Wintersville. New members are always welcome.

Under the guidance of the arts council, the installations at Summit Gallery change each quarter, primarily showcasing works from Tri-State Area artists in a variety of mediums. Each new grouping of artist and artworks is celebrated with an evening artists’ reception.

“The Top of West Virginia is excited about the gallery and the people it brings out to the receptions in downtown Weirton,” said Danny Greathouse, convention and visitors bureau executive director. “I’m sure it’s going to bring even more positive attention to Weirton in 2014.”

Refreshments for the reception are being provided by the Top of West Virginia. For information on the Summit Art Gallery, visit www.TopofWV.com and on its Summit Art Gallery Facebook page. The arts council meets monthly. Anyone interested in promoting the arts is welcome to attend.
