Class of 2013 Stars shine

Another installment of our Community Stars dinner is history, and I come away with the same feeling: That was fun.

There were 11 area residents honored for their unsung contributions as good people doing good things when this event unfolded Monday evening at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.

In accepting their awards, they all spoke with elegance and from the heart, that what they do isn’t for the spotlight.

The Herald-Star, The Weirton Daily Times, Presented by Weirton Medical Center Community Stars banquet is something I always look forward to because I see people I know and enjoy talking to, and I meet new people I’m delighted to bring into my circle of acquaintances.

Thanks is in order to Weirton Medical Center, represented by Kelli McCoy and Lisa Conti, for coming on board as the title sponsor this year, making possible beautiful medallions that were presented to each award recipient as a keepsake of this very special evening.

Our honorees were: Kyle Elder of Toronto; Tom Fitzgerald of Mingo Junction; Betty Hasley of Rayland; Gloria Howard of Steubenville; Cathie Llewellyn of Steubenville; Rick and Mary Oddi of Burgettstown; Janet Polverini, a longtime resident of Toronto who now lives in Follansbee; Betty Powley of Bloomingdale; Robert Pulice of Weirton; and Michael Thomas of Steubenville.

Congratulations to all our shining stars once again.

As a 2014 FYI, keep in mind area residents you’d like to nominate for next year’s event.
