Retreat, Parade of Hats part of Women’s Day services

The Women of Mount Zion Baptist Church will begin their annual Women’s Day services on Saturday with a women’s retreat to the theme “Women Anointed, Appointed and Approved by God.”

The retreat will begin with a continental breakfast at 8:15 a.m. with devotions at 9 a.m. led by the Wellsville Praise Team. Classroom instruction will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The classes and facilitators are: “Anointed By God” taught by Elder Betty Edwards of Columbia, S.C.; “Appointed By God” taught by evangelist Carolyn Ratcliffe of Cleveland; and “Approved By God” taught by Elder Peggy Holmes of Akron.

After the classes, Natasha Kight of Akron will minister a mime to “The Alabaster Box.” The service will end with a sermonette by evangelist Torchee Smith.

Retreat T-shirts will be available for purchase. A hot lunch will be served immediately following the service. The public is invited, and a free will love offering will be taken.

On Sunday during the 11 a.m. worship service, the women’s ministry will present “The Parade of Hats.”

In keeping with the tradition of black women and church hats, all women from Mount Zion and any visiting churches are asked to wear a hat and march in the hat parade. The theme will be “Willing To Work.” Wylene Alexander, women’s ministry chairman, will comment on “fulfilling your purpose and not just filling the pews” during the march.

The Mount Zion Male Chorus will perform, and Elder Betty Edwards will bring the gospel message.

Barbara Prentice is the women’s ministry co-chairman.

Members are Ruth Pendergrast, Isabelle Lavender, Rose Lavender, Vanessa Styles, Charlene Reid, Estelle Dalton, Janet Carter, Lynn Knight, Juanita Thorn, Floretta Hampton, Bunswella Brown, Cheryl Austin, Sharron Cain, Catherine Coleman, Paulette Johnson, Rose Slaughter and Millicent Slaughter.

The Rev. Norries A. Hood Sr. is the pastor.
