University of Pennsylvania

Emily Bassett, daughter of Mark and Carolyn Monti of Steubenville, graduated with a doctorate degree in biochemistry and molecular biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Bassett’s thesis work resulted in seven publications in scientific journals. She was awarded the P. Leslie Dutton Award for outstanding publication by a biochemistry and molecular biophysics graduate student, the 2013 Saul Winegrad Award for outstanding dissertation and a predoctorial fellowship from the American Heart Association.

Bassett is currently employed as a postdoctoral researcher at Ohio State University’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.

She is a 2002 graduate of Catholic Central High School and a 2006 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. She resides in Circelville with her husband, Garrett, who is completing his residency in emergency medicine.

University of Mount Union

Chelsea Coconougher of Cadiz recently graduated from the University of Mount Union with a master’s degree in physician assistant studies.

University of Dayton

Emily Merriman of Wintersville was named to the spring dean’s list at the University of Dayton.

Gateway Restoration Theological


Adonna Mullins, a Wintersville High School graduate, received her doctorate degree in Christian counseling from the Gateway Restoration Theological Seminary in Jonesboro, Ga.

She is the daughter of former Wintersville resident Terry Belcher of Columbus and Frank Haskins of Atlanta.

Mullins served as the director of pastoral care for the Light of the World Christian Tabernacle in Stockbridge, Ga., and was recently promoted to the personal assistant to Bishop Ruth Smith-Holmes.

Mullins plans to open a practice under the name Healthy Women’s Network to work with women ages 35-55 to help women create healthy life paths on both a spiritual and physical level.

She is an educator in the Clayton County Public School System in Georgia. She is married to Russell Mullins and has two twins, Devin and Onya, age 23.
