Local club women attend conference

FLATWOODS – The General Federation of Women’s Club of West Virginia held its 40th-annual summer conference Aug. 2-3 at the Flatwoods Days Hotel and Convention Center.

Conference Chair Rita Lynch and the South District club women hosted the conference, which included Federation events, activities and lectures.

West Virginia President Carol Allen presided over the opening session, followed by dinner and entertainment provided by district presidents. The evening ended with a district get-together in Allen’s suite.

Workshops included “Reporting,” “So You Want to Be a Leader” and “Community Improvement.”

RC Lovin was the guest speaker, discussing diabetes and the state project, Camp Kno-Koma. Karen S. Henson Bibbee of the Woman’s Club of Dunbar, a Leadership, Education and Development Seminar representative, spoke about leadership.

The state organization received three international awards, including Arts, International Outreach and Public Issues. Allen welcomed St. Albans as a new club in the Capitol District.

Representing the Northern District at the conference were District President Jo-Ellen Wright, Weirton Woman’s Club President Diane Pastoric, Woman’s Club of Wheeling President Lexie Hanket and Patty Travis and Linda Simmons of the Wheeling club.
